I
like your stuff -- especially that on traditional societies versus Western
ways of dealing with illness. You said: In this
[I]t is us in the
West who are primitive, and the tribal people (patronised and exploited by
colonisers) who are our superiors.
Yes -- I
believe you are correct on that. In the West, one is not permitted
to be human -- to have the full range of emotions from love, to compassion
to inflamed anger. Therefore, we do not know how to deal with people
who are not simply working or going along with the programme. We
lack -- very often -- even the most basic psychological insights into how
people naturally react to a range of things.
I am
studying the Zimbabwean writer, Dambudzo Marechera. You would like his
stuff. He was considered mad by most of the Western critics that
wrote about him, but actually he was an immensely perceptive survivor of
hugely oppressive situations. There is so much humanity in his
writing that is dismissed as mere 'madness'.

Some days I wonder if it will ever change. We've been out here ten years hearing the same story, and Lynn W at manyvoicespress.com has been listening to it for twenty. Though not new, perhaps a fresh view for others to listen to.Thank you for being out here, brave enough to speak out, and I am honored to meet you. LJhttp://ladyjztalkzone.com/default.aspx___________________________________________________________________________________________ Hi my name is John I
totally understand where your website is coming from. I have been failed
by the system and for over a decade by the Mental Health and then sadly as
a reaction to it the heath service as a whole. I have been traumatized
myself by the Mental Health. I do not distinguish it from any other type
of Abuse I have suffered. But after all the other types of people I
received neglect and so on from. The health service I still struggle
to believe what has happened. And how they just drive it deeper and
deeper. Especially as I stood up vocally to what they said in 1996 and
beyond. I have a sad reputation now built up because I dared to
question. I dared to disagree or have an opinion that was different to
them. They are to obsessed by there own importance backed up by a system
that just believes so they have total impunity and they know
it.
